AUSTRALIANS travelling to Gallipoli next year for the Anzac Day commemorations have been warned to be careful.
The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade on Monday issued a security bulletin on risks for the occasion in 2015.
Foreign Minister Julie Bishop said all Australians should “exercise a high degree of caution in Turkey” during commemorations.
“The security environment is volatile,” she said.
“Terrorists have been active in Turkey before and Islamic State poses an extra threat to the region.”
Ms Bishop said while there was no indication terrorist groups intended to attack Australians in Turkey, there were “tight security arrangements” already in place.
Those aiming to visit the region, whether as part of official groups or not, should register their travel on the Smartraveller website and subscribe to future Anzac Day bulletins, official Turkey DFAT advice and buy travel insurance before leaving.
